Our
Story

Kivu Love began as Seka Handbags, a sewing project in southwest Rwanda. It has since been renamed “Kivu Love”, because the organization now supports not only the women who work at Seka Handbags, but also provides relief - for housing, education, or medical expenses - for families, orphans, and widows in Kenya, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Rwanda. Kivu Love is named after the beautiful Lake Kivu located in the region.

The goal of Seka Handbags was originally to provide women in rural Rwanda with opportunities for safe, dignified employment. Our vision has always been to create avenues for women and families to empower themselves and their loved ones and reinvest in their communities.

JEANNE

Jeanne is where our story starts. Around 2012, a teenage girl from the DRC worked tirelessly to care for her young nephew, Deste, who had fallen ill with malnourishment and pneumonia. The extended family had few resources, and no money for medicine or doctors, but Jeanne gave everything she had and worked hard to care for him.
